The Ford Model K was introduced in 1906 as a replacement for the Modle B and to provide a luxry model to the Ford line up. Equipped with 6 cylinder engine found in the front and powering the rear wheels, it was capable of producing 40Hp. The model K sat a top a 114 inch wheel base and could be ordered in standard touring or roadster body work.
It is considered the Ford Motor Company's first failure. Tquantity of the car was low and the sticker price was high between 2500$ to 3000$ depending on the model and the trim level. It was a departure from the Ford's basic values to provide affordable and dependable vehicles. The model K was the Ford's last vehical to feature a 6 cylinder engine untill 1941. The focus of the company went back producing mass-produced and affordable vehicals. In 1908 production of the model K was ceased after only 900 examples were produced.
Alexander Malcomson was one of the foundiong partners of the ford motor company and a promotor of the luxry car line. He had felt that the evolving automobile market had a place for Ford in production of luxary car. When the Model K turned out to be the faliure, he left the company.
